Circular Economy Coffee

A Sustainability Initiative in Komotini
On May 6, 2025, as part of the Thrace Freedom Festival and with the support of the Municipality of Komotini, the event “The Circular Economy Café” was successfully held at the Komotini Municipal Library.
In the first part, Sofia Adam, Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Policy at the Democritus University of Thrace, presented the potential of the circular economy and its connection to the social and solidarity economy.

In the second part, three separate workshops were held:

• “Give your clothes a new lease on life”: Clothing design inspired by traditional costumes

• “Before you throw it away, reuse it”: With the support of Ms. Sofia Haitidou and Rags and Hags, scented hearts were made from fabric scraps

• “Trash Talk: Learn the Language of Recycling”: An interactive, game-based workshop that answered questions about recycling bins, materials, and recycling

Students from the 2nd Vocational High School of Komotini and students from the Department of Social Policy who are completing their internships at the Exagono Youth and Volunteer Center participated in the event, enhancing its youthful, creative dimension.

The initiative was carried out by the Exagono Youth and Volunteer Center, the “Neon Erga” Social Cooperative, the Komotini Municipal Youth Council, and the Department of Social Policy at the Democritus University of Thrace.

An initiative driven by action, substance, and collaboration for a more sustainable world.
